Cementing a CEREC Crown and Delivering a Screw-Retained Crown on Adjacent Teeth
If you are a dentist planning to restore both a tooth-born crown and an implant crown on adjacent teeth at the same time, you might be wondering about the right sequence of operations. This article will provide you a step-by-step guide on cementing a crown and delivering a screw-retained crown on the adjacent tooth, using the Cerec system.
The Most Ideal Sequence of Events
Using the CEREC system, you can deliver a Cerec same-day crown and a screw-retained implant crown efficiently, accurately and with the least amount of stress! Let’s walk through the steps:
1. Biocopy Scan
Before starting the procedure, carry out a Biocopy scan if you’d like. This will provide you with a digital copy of the patient’s mouth that you can use as a reference. You can even create a Biocopy Scan catalog rather than selecting Biocopy in the administration phase.
2. Tooth Preparation
Prepare the tooth adjacent to the implant that needs a crown.
3. Implant Scan
Next, remove the healing abutment from the implant, or scan the tissue before uncovering it. Once this is done, you can scan the arch where the restorations will be placed. Then scan the opposing side and take a bite registration.
4. Scan Post Acquisition
Place the scan post or the tibase (depending on what is being used to scan for the crown) and the scan body. Then, capture the scan body data.
5. Crown Design and Milling
Roughly design both restorations to get to the desired mesial-distal dimensions. Once you have the general shape, finalize the design of the tooth-born crown. Mill the crown while the patient is still in the chair.
6. Temporize with the Final Crown
To protect the prepared tooth, temporize it with the permanent crown that has been milled – this is so that the implant crown drops in with ease and contacts can be checked in the following step.
7. Final Delivery
When the patient returns for the implant crown, pop off the temporary crown on the prepared tooth. First, deliver the implant crown, and then deliver the tooth-born crown as you normally would.
With the CEREC system, it is possible to maximize the design and time for the patient by cementing a crown and delivering an implant crown on adjacent teeth in a seamless and effective way. This sequence will allow for an efficient workflow while maintaining the highest level of patient care.
