Once you’re numb, we’ll prepare your tooth by removing any decay and shaping it to receive the crown. This involves removing a small amount of tooth structure from all sides – typically about 1-2 millimeters. You’ll hear the drill, but you shouldn’t feel any discomfort.

The preparation needs to be precise because, unlike traditional crowns where minor adjustments can be made at the second appointment, we’re making your final crown today.

Schritt 2: Digitale Abdrücke (10–15 Minuten)

Here’s where CEREC gets interesting, and where many patients are pleasantly surprised. Instead of biting into impression material that can trigger gag reflexes, we use a small camera about the size of a chunky pen.

First, we’ll dry your tooth and apply a light dusting of titanium dioxide powder. This white powder helps the camera capture fine details – think of it like the motion-capture dots actors wear for CGI movies.

Then comes the scanning. The camera needs to capture your prepared tooth from multiple angles, as well as your bite and the surrounding teeth. We’ll move the camera around your mouth, and you’ll see a 3D model of your teeth building up on the computer screen in real-time.

Most patients find this part fascinating rather than uncomfortable. The camera doesn’t touch your teeth with any pressure, and the whole process takes about 10-15 minutes. If we need to retake any part of the scan, it’s quick and easy.

Schritt 3: Gestaltung der Krone (10–20 Minuten)

Now comes the part where technology meets artistry. Using the digital impressions, we’ll design your crown on the computer. The CEREC software suggests an initial crown shape based on the scan, but this is where your dentist’s expertise really matters.

We’ll adjust the crown’s shape to match your bite, ensure proper contact with neighboring teeth, and make sure it looks natural. Many patients enjoy watching this process – it’s like watching a digital sculptor at work.

Schritt 4: Fräsen Ihrer Krone (15–20 Minuten)

Schritt 7: Abschließende Zementierung (10 Minuten)

Once everything fits perfectly, we’ll permanently cement your crown in place. We’ll clean both your tooth and the crown, apply the cement, and seat the crown firmly.

You’ll bite down on a special material while the cement sets, which usually takes just a few minutes. We’ll clean away any excess cement and do a final check of your bite.
